Collation and Induction of the Vicar of Cirencester

Holy Trinity Church

Since the Parish Church was undergoing extensive restoration work, the Collation and Induction of the Reverend Leonard Doolan as Vicar of the Benefice of Cirencester with Watermoor took place at Holy Trinity Church.

With about half the capacity of the Parish Church, Holy Trinity offered a very cosy setting for the Induction. With extra seating squeezed in, most people were accommodated in the Church.

Those who preferred or who could not find a suitable seat in the Church were able to view the service from the adjoining Church Hall. In fact, many here thought they had a better view since the camera, positioned in church, offered close-ups of speakers and various parts of the ceremony which those in church might have been unable to see.

The picture and sound were of excellent quality and it is hoped that a recording of the service may be made available soon.

Many visiting clergy made up a lengthy procession. With the choir leading and with the Bishop, Archdeacon, Father Leonard and the Bishop's Chaplain at the rear, the procession entered the church and took up their places.

During the service Father Leonard was welcomed by the Lord Lieutenant of Gloucestershire, representatives of the Town and District Councils, the Police Force, schools, the Youth and churches.

After the service everyone was invited to the adjoining school hall for refreshments served by members of the congregation.

Here members of this parish and Father Leonard's previous parish mingled over a glass of wine and light refreshments.
