Worship and services
We have a number of different services, at different times and in different styles, but you can be assured of a warm welcome at any.
Worship at St. John Baptist (the Parish Church of Cirencester) is both impressive in its tradition, but also in being innovative.
We worship three Sundays out of four with great dignity and beauty, with incense used at least on 24 Sundays per year. Once a month we are really creative with our All Age Mass, with a range of themes and feasts, using all the 'toolkit' of Catholic worship, but well integrated with flags, activities, bubbles, and full (eucharistic) inclusion of children of all ages. Please check our Youth and Children Page. We also have a Messy Mass every 2 months at 4.00pm to address the needs of those families whose children have Sunday morning sport or school commitments, and a weekly 'Little Angels' on Thursdays at 2.00pm. We are confidently in the open Catholic Anglican tradition, but intentional in our mission through being outward looking, creative, and responsive to social issues in our community.
We worship God in the beauty of holiness and in expressing God's hospitality in the life of the Trinity. Dedicated to St. John the Baptist, there is a fine icon of our patron saint, who will bring many blessings to the life of our church. There is a 'Silent Hour' every Monday (except Bank Holidays) and a daily Eucharist at Noon (10.00am on Bank holidays). The church is open to visitors and pilgrims daily from 10.00am until 4.00pm, and about 1000 votive candles are lit weekly for prayer in the Trinity Chapel.
The 8.00am Eucharist and 6.00pm Choral Evensong are according to the Book of Common Prayer.
Worship at Holy Trinity is both traditional and contemporary – offering something for everyone, whether you’re looking for inspiring worship, or thought-provoking engagement with scripture.
Our main act of worship is at 10 o’clock on Sunday mornings. We are an inclusive and very welcoming church, whatever your age, and whatever your outlook on life.
We try to hold together the very best of worship, from the beautifully crafted words of Common Worship through the seasons, to the more modern ways of engaging with our creator in our all-age-worship. Our priority is to open a window onto the Kingdom of Heaven, that we might both be spiritually uplifted, but also challenged in heart and mind, whether we be 9 months-old, or 90 years-old! We have a children’s corner for pre-schoolers, who go out for ‘Story Time’ during the sermon and intercessions, and two Sunday-School Classes for primary-school age children in the hall next-door. Please check our Youth and Children Page.
Three weeks out of four we enjoy organ and choir accompaniment to our singing, and on the first Sunday of the month we worship all together, with a music group and a more informal liturgy.
For those who like to meet God in a quieter and more contemplative way, we also have a smaller Holy Communion service both on Sundays at 8am and on Wednesdays at 7pm.
St Lawrence’s style of worship is the most informal of all our churches, but is still firmly within the Anglican tradition.
There is one ‘Community Eucharist’, on Sundays at 10:30am, which is suitable for all ages. And for those who prefer a quieter service, there is a small service of Holy Communion at 10.30am on the first Wednesday of the month.
