As Bishop of Tewkesbury I have enjoyed teaching the bible in various contexts over the years as a parish priest, as vice principal of Wycliffe Hall in Oxford, and as a Bishop in the diocese of Gloucester. I have called my course "Taking the lid off the New Testament" and will hope to explore different portraits of Jesus in the different gospels, provide background to the rapid expansion of the Christian church in the early period, explore some central themes in the letters of Paul and look as church under pressure from the letter to the Hebrews. I hope that as well as providing helpful background to the New Testament for those who come that the course will very much be a way of deepening our own Christian faith and encouraging us in our Christian discipleship in the 21st century.

Retreat to Bruges
Fr. Leonard will lead a five day retreat to the Benedictine Abbey of Sint Andries in Bruges, Belgium. We will join in the worship of the monks as well as have our own group worship. The five bible studies will focus on the 'I am' sayings of Jesus. Food, and accommodation is good (but no en suite). We will spend an afternoon and early evening in Bruges seeing the wonderful sites.
The cost will be about 140 euros plus travel. This is very good value. Names and payment in euros (140 euros) to Fr. Leonard by May 10th 2010.
